Permethrin-based sprays for clothing, like Repel ® Permethrin Clothing & Gear Insect Repellent, are the outdoorsman’s best-kept insect-repelling secret. Unlike skin repellents formulated with DEET or picaridin (which ward off listed insect pests), permethrin sprays disable biting bugs when they contact or bite into treated surfaces, killing them. Repel ® Permethrin Clothing & Gear Insect Repellent actually binds to the bers of treated fabrics, including gear, tents and even nets, for up to two weeks of residual protection through several washings. When using a permethrin-based product on your clothing, you’ll need to plan ahead – sprayed garments or equipment need at least two to four hours of drying time before you can pack them up or wear them. Lay out the articles you want to treat in a well-ventilated outdoor area and spray the surface of the fabric until the outer surfaces are visibly moist, avoiding surfaces that contact skin. Hang treated garments or equipment to dry.
